About Courtney Bent……

Courtney Bent is an award winning photographer and filmmaker whose work has taken her from Masai Camps in East Africa to death row in the United States. She has been the recipient of over 30 awards and grants for her work including the Golden Light Award for best educational photography program, the Doreen Arbus grant from the Women in Film Foundation, three ADA Grants from Very Special Arts, as well as grants from the LEF Foundation, the Fledgling Fund, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Maine Media Workshops and the Houston Center for Photography.

Courtney was the co-producer of the documentary film, Divining Mom, hailed by Variety as "an impressive non-fiction debut" and the producer and subject of Shooting Beauty, an eight time audience award winning documentary film about a photography program Courtney started for individuals with disabilities at United Cerebral Palsy in Boston, MA. In 2018 she launched the 100 Cameras Project- a program that brought adapted cameras systems and photography workshops to individuals with disabilities throughout the United States culminating with a series of national exhibitions aimed at educating communities on disability, diversity, and embracing our differences. The project gained national recognition and was featured on various news programs including NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and NPR’s Here and Now. When not taking pictures and producing documentary films, Courtney is teaching photography workshops throughout the U.S. using her 25 years of teaching experience to work with and encourage new photographers of all ages and abilities.

Courtney currently teaches photography at St. Sebastian's School in Needham, MA and is the Media Department Head at Summer Arts at Fayerweather School in Cambridge, MA.
